Common formats

Motion design shows up in many forms, and you’ve probably already seen more of it than you realize.

It’s used across industries to educate, promote, and engage. Here are some common formats:

  • Explainer animations. These are short videos that break down a topic, service, or product in a clear, engaging way. They’re often used on homepages or landing pages.

  • Animated infographics. Perfect for visualizing data or statistics in a way that’s more digestible and memorable than charts or reports.

  • Logo animations or stings. A brief animated logo that opens or closes a video, adding polish and reinforcing brand identity.

  • Educational videos. Used by nonprofits, schools, or campaigns to teach concepts, explain processes, or raise awareness.

  • Social media motion posts. These include animated posts, reels, or looping videos that stand out in fast-moving feeds.

  • UI or app demos. Walk viewers through how a product works using clean, simple animations.

  • Short storytelling films. Ideal for emotionally-driven campaigns that combine narrative and visual metaphor.

Whatever the format, the goal is the same: to make ideas move; visually, emotionally, and strategically.
