Ask the right questions

Before you start any motion design project, it helps to ask the right questions. These questions give you a clear foundation and help guide every creative decision that follows. Whether you’re working on a short explainer or a full campaign, clarity upfront saves time and leads to better results.

Start with the basics:

  • What is the main goal of this video?

  • Who is the audience?

  • What do we want them to think, feel, or do after watching?

  • Where will the animation be used? (Website, social media, presentations, events)

  • What tone are we going for? Calm, playful, urgent, trustworthy?

  • Are there brand guidelines to follow — like colors, fonts, or style?

  • Is there a deadline or launch date?

  • What is the available budget?

If you’re working with a team or outside creator, these answers give everyone the same starting point. They also help you stay focused during production. If something isn’t supporting the goal, it doesn’t belong.

This process doesn’t need to be complicated. A simple creative brief or outline is enough. What matters is taking a step back before jumping into tools or visuals. A few smart questions now can lead to a much stronger final result.
