DIY or hire a pro
There are two common ways to approach motion design: do it yourself, or work with a professional. Each has pros and limitations, and the right path depends on your needs, timeline, and resources.
DIY tools like Canva, Adobe Express, and other online platforms make it easier than ever to create simple animations. They’re great for quick social posts, basic explainers, or looping content. If you already have a clear message and brand assets, you can often build something solid without outside help.
However, DIY tools have limits. You’re working with templates, so design flexibility is lower. It can be harder to control timing, storytelling, or sound integration. And if the message is complex, abstract, or high-stakes, it may not have the visual impact you’re looking for.
Hiring a motion designer gives you more creative power. A designer can help shape the story, design custom visuals, animate with emotion, and polish the final piece with professional timing and sound. It’s a collaboration. You bring the message, and the designer brings it to life.
There’s also a middle ground: working with a designer for key parts (like storyboarding or animation) while keeping smaller tasks in-house.
Either way, start by knowing what you need. From there, you can decide what makes the most sense for your team and goals.
